Away from The Beatles, The Stones and all those other great bands I was brainwashed with by my parents from an early age ("Thanks Mum & Dad!!), the first band I really found for myself I guess was The Smiths. In fact it was a young Johnny Marr that encouraged an even younger me to pick up a geetar in the first place! I know The Smiths are like musical Marmite for a lot of people ie: you either love 'em or hate them but there was something in their music that spoke to me (and whether you hear it or not in what I do, it has gone on to influence my own writing down through the years). I'm a sucker for their ... what? 'Melodic melancholy' let's say. Yes, that will do .... their 'melodic melancholy'! One song that has really stuck with me is this not-so-well-known B-side 'Back To The Old House'. There's just something really hauntingly beautiful about the track. I haven't tried to sing like Mozzer on my version (though I may have tried to ape Johnny a bit here mind!) Again, I hope I've done this lovely piece of music some kind of justice. I thought it made a fitting final track to this compilation of tunes. I do hope you've enjoyed my different interpretations here of these wonderful songs. Thanks for listenin' Folks!
