Long before SUPER 8 there was 'astrud'! Taking their name from the girl from Ipanema, they actually hailed from Warrington in the North West of England. Astrud exploded onto the live scene back in the early 1990s and shone brightly for a good few years before spontaneously combusting around 1993. Never a studio band, 'astrud' made a name for themselves on the stage and were seen to play such legendary venues as: 'The Cavern Club' (Liverpool); 'Spike Island' (Widnes) and, yes, 'Legends' (Warrington). Outsiders on the burgeoning 'MADCHESTER!' scene happening in the city up the road at the time (ie: Manchester), it's pretty clear listening back here in the 21st Century that some of the music of the time rubbed off. Shades of Roses, Mondays and The Charlatans can definitely be heard amid the grooves contained within. Some of you may be surprised to learn that astrud's lead guitarist and main songwriter is indeed Paul 'Trip' Ryan now of SUPER 8. Sit back, relax & enjoy then as he revisits & reinterprets these long lost songs of the 1990s in SUPER 8 style!
