Heading ‘Way Out West’ which was the top of the street
We would ride in the road, side by side
Jam jars & fishing nets tied to our backs
‘Til we got to the stream by the railway track
And the days would last forever
And the sun would shine
And nothing seemed to matter
In the broad daylight
Mum said: “Be back for 5!”
But we never were
Yet we still got that ice-cream for dessert
When we were young …
One crazy, hazy sunny day in the back yard
We had the idea to go deep sea diving
So Mum cleaned out the bins, filled them up with water
Sporting lemonade tanks, we just jumped right in
And then we rode to the park like ‘The Three Amigos’
The last one there had to go in goals
Dermot fought the ‘Boxer’, Dez’s ‘Grifter’ flew
And me I rode my ‘Chopper’ with the crossbar gearbox
When we were young …
Then Dad got sick, we didn’t know what to do
But Mum held it together because she had to
Then one day the phone rang and I just knew
That the angels and Neil Diamond had pulled him through
We weren't so young …
When we were young...
So young, a long, long time ago
